Find Your Flow at Any Age: Gentle Yoga for Seniors

At Unita Yoga, we believe yoga is for every body—at every age. Movement doesn’t have an expiration date, and flexibility isn’t a prerequisite. That’s why we’re so excited to introduce Young at Heart, a new class offering gentle yoga for seniors. Though it’s named for seniors, this class is perfect for anyone seeking a slower, more mindful practice.

Beginning in January, Young at Heart Yoga will be offered on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month at 10 AM. These sessions focus on accessibility, stability, and staying active through mindful movement and breath. The pace is slower, the poses are less intense, and the environment is supportive and relaxed. While it’s not a chair yoga class, chairs are available upon request, making the practice adaptable to each individual’s needs.

Benefits of Gentle Yoga for Seniors

Yoga has countless benefits for people of all ages, but some are especially impactful for seniors.

Protecting Your Joints

As we age, our joints naturally lose some of their fluidity and range of motion. Gentle yoga for seniors can help lubricate and nourish the joints, easing stiffness and reducing the effects of conditions like arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome.

Increasing Strength and Balance

Among older adults, falling is one of the leading causes of injury. Gentle yoga for seniors strengthens the body through slow, intentional movements and stabilizing poses that improve balance, coordination, and confidence—helping you move more safely in daily life.

Alleviating Aches and Pain

Even with physical limitations, yoga offers ways to ease chronic pain and manage discomfort. Mindful movement and breathwork can reduce tension, improve posture, and help you stay present and calm through any pain you may experience.

Improving Mental Health

The benefits of gentle yoga for seniors go beyond the physical. It supports mental and emotional well-being by lowering stress, anxiety, and depression. Through relaxation and mindful breathing, yoga helps regulate the nervous system, lower blood pressure, and boost mood. In a class setting, it also fosters community—helping you feel socially connected and supported.

Celebrate Your Body’s Abilities

Whether you’re returning to yoga after some time away, managing mobility challenges, or simply looking for a gentler approach, gentle yoga for seniors offers a space to move with ease and confidence.

At its core, Young at Heart Yoga is about celebrating what your body can do today and nurturing strength, balance, and peace of mind at any stage of life. Visit our upcoming yoga events page to sign up and explore more ways to move, breathe, and grow with us in the new year.
